We’re recruiting!

We’re looking for a new person to join the leadership team at Out Making Games.

We're looking for games industry professionals to help us with advocacy, education, events, community building and overall governance. We'd love to see applicants from across the LGBTQ+ rainbow and would especially encourage people from marginalised backgrounds to apply - all you need is a passion for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility.

Our organisational pillars are:

  • Intersectionality

  • Networking & Community

  • Advocacy

  • Education

Any activity we engage in needs to satisfy at least one of those pillars.

What would I be doing?

We want you to bring your passion and expertise to help shape the future of the organisation and assist with ongoing work. You will have the opportunity to specialise in the areas you are most passionate about.

In particular, we are looking for people who have a passion for, and are going to proactively target, things done in the following areas:

  • 📡 Social media / PR - this might include helping with social media strategy or helping draft public responses to current events

  • 🤝 Partnership management - communication, event management, reporting and partner recruitment

  • 📢 Policy - researching and creating guidelines for businesses in a range of areas, drafting public responses to current events

  • 🎓 Education - educating businesses and institutions about authentic representation in games, supporting LGBTQ+ people within businesses and increasing awareness of key LGBTQ+ issues facing both professionals and players

What is the time commitment?

Roughly 2 hours per week on average. This includes:

  • 1 x 1 hour committee meeting per fortnight

  • 1 x 1 hour working group meeting per fortnight (depending on what area you’re working in)

  • 1 x 1 hour per week for any additional work (e.g. writing policy documentation, emailing potential partners, responding to community tweets)

We also expect OMG Committee Members to attend OMG events wherever possible. This is no more than once a quarter and would depend on geographical location - if you live in Scotland we wouldn’t expect you to make it down to Brighton for a Develop event.

What is the committee like?

There are currently 9 of us from across the industry including programmers, producers, lawyers, recruiters, game designers and business owners. Collectively we have experience across AAA, indie, mobile, PC, console, giant multinational companies to single-person indie businesses.

We make decisions together but have a few roles to provide structure. These are voted on at the beginning of each year and anyone in the committee is able to nominate themselves. These roles are:

Chairperson - Zoe Brown

  • Runs meetings

  • Manages the agenda

  • Follows up on actions and makes sure we're making decisions

Vice chair - James Dodd

  • Supports the Chairperson

  • Stands in when the Chairperson is unavailable

Treasurer - Ian Masters

  • Invoicing

  • Budgeting

  • Tax submissions
