Pride Month 2025 wrap-up!
As we rapidly pass through June, we want to take another opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Pride month. We hope that you have been finding ways to celebrate all the amazing individuals that you are!
Pride started out as a protest, something that seems increasingly important to remember as we see rights being challenged and rolled back here in the UK, in the US, and across Europe. The Stonewall Riots occurred due to a raid by New York City police on the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village, on 28th June, 1969. Angered by police harassment and social discrimination, the event sparked six days of protests and galvanized the gay rights movement in the United States. The first Pride marches in the US were held on the anniversary of the riots in 1970, with the first UK Pride rally taking place in 1972. The UK has now dropped down to 22nd in the ILGA Europe Rainbow Map rankings, scoring particularly poorly on legal gender recognition and intersex bodily integrity, and we continue to see the disproportionate targeting and scapegoating of trans people in the media.
That makes it all the more important to continue to help organisations in supporting their LGBTQ+ employees. This year, OMG have put together and shared Pride month resource packs with our sponsors, including some top tips for celebrating the month in their studios, some suggested LGBTQ+ reads, a guide to the various Pride flags and their meanings, and a list of some of the fantastic resources and services provided by other key LGBTQ+ organisations. We have also partnered with BAFTA Games for the third year in a row, to celebrate LGBTQ+ inclusivity in gaming which you can check out over on their Bluesky!
Phew! What a month! But while in the wider world the rainbow flags may be going back into storage shortly, we know that LGBTQ+ people are here all year and OMG have a whole host of events coming up throughout the remainder of 2025, including the following next month;
